Now, a bit more.<\/p>\n<h2>Software.<\/h2>\n<p>The\u00a0 Starlet\u00a0 comes with a number of programs that run from\u00a0 ROM.\u00a0 MicrPro&#8217;s Wordstar and CalcStar are included in their mobile, &#8220;To\u00a0 Go&#8221;\u00a0 forms.\u00a0 WordStar was the de-facto word processor back in\u00a0 the\u00a0 day and so it&#8217;s inclusion here is logical.\u00a0 In addition, there is a terminal emulator and personal filer.<\/p>\n<h2>Telecom.<\/h2>\n<p>The terminal emulator is worth a special mention. It emulates the\u00a0 DEC\u00a0 VT-100 terminal.\u00a0 This is one of the most popular\u00a0 terminals\u00a0 and being emulate one allows the Starlet to communicate with most\u00a0 available systems of the time.\u00a0 In addition to emulation, Telecom\u00a0 offers\u00a0 file\u00a0 transfers both as plain text or with\u00a0 modem7\/xmodem\u00a0 protocol.\u00a0 There\u00a0 is even a switch on the file that allows it\u00a0 to\u00a0 convert WordStar files on the fly as they are being\u00a0 transferred.\u00a0 This must have been quite a boon at the time.<\/p>\n<h2>Add-ons.<\/h2>\n<p>The\u00a0 Starlet had a variety of add-ons available there was a\u00a0 3.5&#8243;\u00a0 floppy\u00a0 disk drive,\u00a0 a CRT\/disk adapter,\u00a0 a 32K RAM cartridge.\u00a0 I\u00a0 don&#8217;t have any of these so can&#8217;t really comment but they look\u00a0 to\u00a0 be well thought out.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In part 1 I talked about the NEC Starlet.
